10 Most Anticipated Horror Movies of 2014/ Bucket List

Above are the posters of each movie on my top 10 upcoming movies of 2014 list, and below I obviously had to add the trailers that got me hooked, so that all of you can see how each made it on my list. The way I have set this list up is in order of least excited to most excited. I will also add when each movie will be releasing and where (i.e. VOD, DVD, Theatres).

# 10- See No Evil 2

Even though See No Evil 2 is placed in the #10 spot, there are two women starring in this movie which makes it one I am certain to make time for. Scream Queen Danielle Harris will be starring in See No Evil 2 and obviously if she is in this movie I have to watch it; since she is known for starring in 4 of the many Halloween franchise movies plus a producer's cut in 1995. The other actress I am thrilled to see in this movie is Katharine Isabelle; she is known for being in one of my favourite horror trilogies as a child (Ginger Snaps) and also one of my recent favourite movies (American Mary). It also does not hurt that she is a Canadian Actress and that those movies are Canadian as well, like me! I have to be proud. See No Evil 2 will release in October on VOD and DVD.

# 9- Jessabelle

For me, trailers are very deceiving. It may look like a blockbuster hit or the movie of the century. But when you finally watch the movie you regret even watching the trailer because you feel like the trailer itself was a spoiler alert for the whole movie especially if all the climactic parts are in the first 5 seconds of the trailer. That is how I feel about this movie but then again I am drawn to watch it. Especially if the producers of Paranormal Activity, Sinister, Insidious, and The Purge are behind this movie I just have to watch it. Jessabelle is set to release in November on VOD.

# 8- Another Me

Let me just say that I do not know much about this movie. The only thing I do know is that it is starring Sophie Turner best known for her role as Sansa in The Game of Thrones. The reason why this movie caught my eye is because it seemed like something similar to I Know Who Killed Me which starred Lindsey Lohan. Another Me is probably nowhere near similar to I know Who Killed Me and is hopefully better. Especially since the very HOT Jonathan Rhys Meyers is also in this movie. It is one I need to watch. Another Me has released, back in August. The one problem is that it can only be watched online at least in North America.

# 7- Ouija

Any movie that involves ouija boards or witchcraft automatic makes me want to watch it. So, obviously the title alone would hook me in enough to add it to my list of movies to watch. The movie being centered around a group of friends wanting to contact one of their friends who has recently died, is a great plot for young adults who are interested in horror movies. Ouija is set to release on October in theatres.

# 6- The Taking of Deborah Logan

The reason why The Taking of Deborah Logan is on my list is because I recently came to love horror movies that are filmed in the style of "found footage". I am also looking forward to watching this movie because I like how the plot is that a student is studying Alzhemeir's disease which makes the thought of "found footage" even better. The Taking of Deborah Logan is set to release in October on VOD and also in November on DVD.

# 5- The Pyramid

The Pyramid is obviously a movie about mummies and what lies inside the Great Pyramids of Giza. which is exactly why I am excited to watch this movie. Ancient souls be it good or evil coming to life excites me and having the location be Egypt is just the icing on the cake. The Pyramid is set to release in December but to my knowledge it is unknown if it will be released on DVD, VOD, or in theatres.

# 4- Amityville: The Awakening

Being a fan of the Amityville Horrors (2005) I would have to be curious about Amityville: The Awakening. After watching the trailer I became even more curious than before. One thing I especially like that drew me in was having the plot of the movie revolve around the son of the family, who has a neuralogical diesease which has put him in a coma-like state. He was suppose to be in a coma for a while but being a horror movie, that obviously could not happen. Amityville: The Awakening was set to release on January 2015 but Dimension Films removed it from their release schedule and now their looking for a new release date.

# 3- Horns

Horns may not be a Horror movie in the traditional way but it involves the Devil and being consumed by the Devil. So, in my books it is worthy of being on my list. The plot is very sweet, sad, and genius. I love the way Daniel Radcliffe's character begins to transform into the Devil in hopes of finding the person who killed his girlfriend. Horns is set to release on October in theatres.

# 2- Grace: The Possession

"Witness the possession, in the eyes of the possessed". After reading that in the trailer I am officially hooked. It is the first horror movie I have heard of that is an "interactive" film. Watching the trailer, I truly feel like I was seeing the events occur in the eyes of Grace, who is the main character (possessed). Grace: The Possession is set to release in October on DVD.

# 1- The Houses October Built

The setting in this movie is very backwoods. With clown masks included, it makes this movie even better. While watching the trailer for this movie I had the same feeling that The Hills Have Eyes gave me; anticipation and fear. Having the climax happen in such an isolated, remote area makes the scare factor even more intense. I can not wait until this movie comes out; which is in October on VOD.

Houses of 1000 Corpses

Synopsis
On October 30, 1977, Jerry Goldsmith, Bill Hudley, Mary Knowles and Denise Willis are on the road in hopes of writing a book on offbeat roadside attractions. When the four meet Captain Spaulding, a vulgar but friendly owner of a gas station and the "Museum of Monsters & Madmen", they learn the local legend of Dr. Satan. As they take off in search of the tree from which Dr. Satan was hanged, they pick up a young hitchhiker named Baby, who claims to live only a few miles away.

My Thoughts
* I wish I watched House of 1000 Corpses before or on Halloween, instead of after.
House of 1000 Corpses is a movie that I assumed to be an overrated and overhyped cheap horror flick. Now, instead of going on about what I thought this movie was going to be like, let me enlighten you on what I now think. Houses of 1000 Corpses is now on my top favourite horror movies list; and that is a lot to say because most of the movies on my list are ghost/demon horror movies (i.e. The Grudge, The Ring).
House of 1000 Corpses is not like other typical horror movies with clichés and cheap jump scares. It is a bizarre, twisted, and gruesome backwoods type of movie. House of 1000 Corpses can be compared to The Hills Have Eyes to a certain extent but in House of 1000 Corpses you get scared of people who bond over torturing other people.
Now, let’s talk about my favourite character in House of 1000 Corpses; Baby Firefly. Baby is the young baby sister of the group of murderers. Her voice alone gets you scared, especially her laugh. I loved everything about her character from trying to seduce her victims to her dialog. Everything about her character was perfect for this movie.

The Den

“There is a monster in my closet”; That one scene alone gave me a heart attack. I had to cover my eyes twice before rewinding the movie a third time to watch that scene again. The Den reminded me of Smiley which is a horror movie with a similar concept.

*Maybe I’ll write a review on Smiley.

When the main character was video chatting and came across the girl whose webcam was not working. All I have to say is her picture freaked me out. I thought something or someone would pop out and I had to watch the movie through the spaces between my fingers. Finally, I liked the ending but I wish that it did not end that way but it ended like a true horror movie except not as scary.

Oculus

Synopsis
The film takes place in two different times: the present and 11 years earlier. The two plotlines are told in parallel through flashbacks.
In 2002, software engineer Alan Russell moves into a new house with his wife Marie, 10-year-old son Tim, and 12-year-old daughter Kaylie. Alan purchases an antique mirror to decorate his office. Unbeknownst to them the mirror is supernatural and malevolent and induces hallucinations in both adults; Marie is haunted by visions of her own body decaying, while Alan is seduced by a ghostly woman named Marisol, who has mirrors in place of eyes.
Over time, the parents become psychotic, with Alan increasingly isolating himself in his office and Marie becoming withdrawn and paranoid. During the same period, all of the plants in the house die and the family dog disappears after being locked in the office with the mirror. After Kaylie witnesses Alan interacting with Marisol and tells her mother, Marie goes insane and attempts to kill her children. Alan overpowers her and chains her to their bedroom wall.
Alan remains isolated in his office for an indeterminate period of time; when the family runs out of food, the children attempt to seek help from their neighbors, who disbelieve their stories. Attempting to contact doctors or the authorities, Kaylie discovers that all of her phone calls are answered by the same man, who admonishes her to speak with her father.
One night, Alan unchains Marie, and both parents attack the children. Marie briefly comes to her senses, only to be shot dead by Alan. Alan corners the children in his office, but also experiences a moment of lucidity, during which he forces Tim to shoot him to death. The police arrive and take Tim into custody. Before the siblings are separated, they promise to reunite as adults and destroy the mirror. As Tim is taken away in the back of a squad car he sees the ghosts of his parents watching him from the house.

My Thoughts
Like many horror trailers of there, the one for Oculus made me anticipate its release. Luckily, I got to watch Oculus this past weekend; which was a long enough wait.
I am going to try my hardest to not spoil Oculus what so ever because I really did enjoy it. It may not have been the scariest movie but being a psychological horror Oculus did freak me out; especially when I saw how the evil spirits psychologically affected the main characters (Kaylie Russell and Tim Russell) throughout this movie. It was truly fascinating to watch.
I have to warn you about Oculus though. Pay close attention to this movie, because of the sequences changing constantly from past to present it can get very confusing. Even missing a minute and you could miss out on a crucial part of the movie.
The majority of Oculus may have been good but there were some things that I did not like. Firstly, Oculus took a while before it got to the climax and everything before that, were either the main characters arguing or setting up their camera and timers. Secondly and lastly, I felt as though throughout this movie Kaylie Russell, the sister and one of the main characters seemed to be very bossy.

American Horror Story (Series)

The music that plays in the opening credits sets your mood for what is to come in the episodes. It is creepy and disturbing but you cannot look away. This was the first time that I watched American Horror Story and I finished it in one day. So, you know it is worth the watch. The first season (The Murder Show) alone is full of drama, sex, paranoia and numerous plot twists.

All I have to say is; Evan Peters, his acting is on another level, the way he is able to play a depressed sociopath but at the same time convince the audience to like his character even more is the true essence of an actor. Evan Peters deserves recognition and I cannot wait to watch the second season (Asylum) to see the new character he plays and also how he presents is to the audience.

I am already so hooked; as we speak I am loading the second season (Asylum) to watch. No breaks, no rests, just full on marathon mode. Hopefully I finish all three seasons in time for the premiere of the fourth season (Freakshow).

RATING: 5/5

Don’t let the demons bite or do, YOU FREAKS!!!

Let me start off by saying that the opening credits gets scarier by the season. Since I saw the opening credits for the fourth season (Freakshow), I can say that it is a fact that the creators of American Horror Story is trying to get you scared.

Lana Winters, let’s talk about her. In the beginning I will admit I felt sorry for her. She struggled to become a serious Journalist while hiding away her sexuality to do so; but after finishing the season I could not help but get mad at her for taking advantage of everyone. She was being such an opportunist.

The actress who plays her on the other hand is incredible. Sarah Paulson is a magnificent actress; she was good in season 1 (Murder House) but her character was not seen as much as she was in season 2 (Asylum).

One more thing, pay attention to episodes 9 through 12 because episode 12 can get a bit confusing with the years shown during the flashback sequences.

RATING: 4/5

Don’t let the demons bite or do, YOU FREAKS!!!

Synopsis
The third season primarily follows the antics and events of a coven of Salem descendants who reside within a boarding school, Miss Robichaux's Academy, centered in New Orleans, Louisiana. The academy is run by Headmistress Cordelia Foxx (Sarah Paulson), who has always lived in the shadow of her mother, Fiona Goode (Jessica Lange). Fiona is the Coven's "Supreme", a witch born every generation who embodies countless gifts and magical abilities, namely, the Seven Wonders of Witchcraft; the Supreme is the head of the Coven. Danger lurks inside the academy's past due to the mysterious butler Spalding(Denis O'Hare) and his relationship with Fiona. The entire coven is assessed and evaluated by the Council of Witchcraft, which includes Fiona's old rival and Cordelia's mother figure, Myrtle Snow (Frances Conroy).
My Thoughts
Loved the drama in this season. It was not too much nor too little; it was just right. Unlike Asylum where there was so much going on in a short amount of time that it got confusing in certain episodes.

Do not get me wrong I still enjoyed Asylum very much; I just had to pay close attention.

I was disgusted by what happened to Evan peters' character in episode 3 (The Replacements) but by the end I was content. It was just so awkward I wanted to close my eyes... And I was watching it alone.

Now Sarah Paulson, she owned this season again with her acting skills. Playing cordillia, head mistress of the academy, She went from being a vulnerable girl looking for approval from her self-absorbed mother to an independent strong women looking after upcoming witches.

Through my eye taissa farmiga's character is exactly the same as her character in season 1; at least personality wise.

This season had so much emotion, I caught myself numerous amount of times rewinding scenes just so I can feel the emotion again and again.

The Hat Goes Wild

I do not know if any of you have Rogers Cable but I do, and a channel that is featured is The Movie on Demand. It is basically like Netflix in a way. When I saw The Hat Goes Wild I thought 'oh cool poster why don't I check it out'. But honestly the only interesting thing about this movie is a guy cutting his finger off; and not because someone else cut it but because he was stupid. There was also a weird reoccurrence of turtles that I could not understand.

The description said or at least implied that The Hat Goes Wild was a horror movie and it was not even close to it. Thus making me not recommend it.

The Unborn

Three things that will get you hooked: creepy child, creepy handcrafted mask, and creepy dogs.

If that did not get you hooked maybe this will. TWINS. The movie revolves around TWINS. What more can you ask for in a horror movie?!

I have watched The Unborn numerous times since it was released and I will probably watch it numerous times after this.

The fact that this movie involves Nazi scientists, and old people being very flexible!!! Makes this movie worth that watch.
